One Little Orphan
Written and Recorded February 17th, 2022
In the evening in the Yellow Room on Carter Ave, Nashville TN

lyrics

sometimes i feel like an orphan
somebody promised to carry home
i wander til my legs are crying
and lie down with the setting sun

sometimes i feel like a kind of king
nobody else knows my domain
the grass that breaks the overpass pavement
every blade has a name

sometimes i feel like nothing at all
just a stone that i can't lift
it's then you won't even find me asking
i'd just as soon return the gift

sometimes i feel a dying chill
how deer must feel like when you've seen em
that's when i stay so very still
wait until some hunter is leaving

well that's my life and that's my time
don't matter how many miles or memories
i've drunk like wine and pissed along
into the river, into the seas

don't matter how many, or how bad it hurts
to just get farther from my mother
cause i'm just one little orphan
but the world's another
